Keeping it Simple
For the purposes of this site, it is my intention to make this step of podcasting as simple and as free as possible. Once you have gained a certain degree of understanding of how the publishing process works, feel free to take it to the next level. Let’s get started.
Step 1: Start a Blog
The reason for this suggestion is that by starting a blog, you immediately have a place to display your podcast. Notice I didn’t say STORE your podcast. The MP3 file that you created actually gets stored using a host. More on this later. Because it is one of the easiest to start with, I suggest signing up for a free blog at Blogger.com. For more on signing up for a blog, please go to my blogging page HERE.
When you start your blog, you will choose a name that will look something like mypodcastname.blogspot.com (change mypodcastname to the topic of the podcast). If this was for your students, you could call the blog mistersmithsmathpodcast.blogspot.com.
Create a post to provide the viewers with background information if necessary and then move on to step 2.
Step 2: Find a HOST
If you’re not a techie, this may sound a little scary, but I can assure you that it is easier than it sounds. Because my goal is to keep this simple and FREE, I’m suggesting PodBean.com as the host of choice. PodBean offers free and paid for accounts to give you room to expand if necessary. That being said, you must first sign up for a FREE account before you can do anything with the .mp3 file you have created with Audacity. Let’s do this now.
Go to PodBean and sign up for an account. When finished, come back here for further instructions.
Step 3: Uploading and Publishing your MP3 File
PodBean makes this very simple with their Web based software. This is definitely something that you need to see rather than read. Check out my tutorial on uploading and publishing your MP3 file.

Step 4: Embedding the MP3 Player
I know this step sounds a little scary, but it’s another one of those things that you are better off seeing rather than reading. One thing to mention about this step…USE INTERNET EXPLORER instead of Mozilla Firefox. I rarely make this suggestion as I think that Firefox provides a better browsing experience, however, it wasn’t working for this procedure. You may want to have the Dashboard page of your blog up and ready to go also. Start the tutorial below when you are ready.
